The advent and access to computer technology has enabled artists to continually raise the eloquence of their visuals within the entertainment industry, both in gaming and filmmaking, as well as in the realm of digital architecture and visualization. With every improvement and development in technology, new doors open to the point where the lines separating the worlds of cinema, gaming environment development and architectural visualization begin to blur.
This discussion will exhibit the ways in which established filmmaking techniques can inform and enhance the process of digital architectural visualization. Beginning with the process of storyboarding, an art form unto itself, and shot blocking, we will cover the planning process through pre-visualization techniques within 3DS Max. Specific examples will illustrate the use of the powerful scripting methods available in visualization packages such as 3DS Max to facilitate and automate the creation of complex camera moves and effects. We will also illustrate how the finishing process, including composting and final shot assembly, can be aid during the pre-production and production stages through case studies based both in 3DS Max and the AfterEffects compositing package.
