ACM SIGGRAPH announced today the award nominees for the SIGGRAPH 2008 Computer Animation Festival to be held in Los Angeles this summer. Nominees were chosen from more than 900 submissions from around the globe, presented by both professional studios and students alike. An esteemed panel of jury members reviewed each submission to compile some of the greatest works submitted this year.

More details of a new joint Chinese-Japanese anime adaptation of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel classic were revealed at The 4th China International Cartoon and Animation Festival in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou on April 28. The novel depicts the tumultuous warring period of second-century China and the political intrigue between the different factions.

Ollie Johnston worked on 'Bambi,' 'The Rescuers' 'Pinocchio' and 'The Jungle Book.' Oliver Martin "Ollie" Johnston Jr., the last living member of the celebrated "Nine Old Men" of Disney animation whose work set the standard by which all character animation is judged and a recipient of the National Medal of Arts, has died.
