2Textures offers about 3000 free textures in different categories: abstract, anatomy, animals, architectural, buildings, environment, fabric, food, ground, man-made, metal, nature, ornaments, panorama, stone, vector, vehicles, water, wood
A hierarchical navigation allows to see further sub-categories to find specific textures.
Some categories as the Anatomy one have very few textures. In many cases we find reference images rather than 3D textures ready to be applied. In such cases those images are useful for reproductions or inspiration and would need elaboration and editing to be suitable for texturing purposes.
The full resolution of the downloadable digital image is ranging from the quite good 3000 by 2000 pixels to the lower 1200 x 800, in JPEG format, a lossy compression format suitable for photographs. The quality of the full resolution images is acceptable: good color balance and detail.
Not being 3D image maps suitable to created shaders most of the images offered by 2Textured.com need further editing: cropping, processing, color balance and anything more needed.
Trying to be smart, the Website offers the user interface in the local language of the visitor: Italian in my case! What if I want to use English, for instance to make this review?
In a full archive of thousands of images a search function is really needed and we have one in 2Textured with a lot o parameter to adjust our search.
2Textured.com offers also the possibility to add users’ textures while the forum and a tutorial sections are linking to an external website, evidently affiliated. The texturing tutorials presented are only two.
From two different workstations and Internet connections the website was quite slow and in some cases failed to serve pages.
In conclusion 2Textured.com is a free collection of photographic images which could find some use as reference or the source for textures.
