Traveling Around The World
CG Explorer: Tell us about your travels around the World.
(Davide Pesare): What followed was the most amazing adventure of my life. We traveled overland, from London down to Australia, using trains and buses for three months. We saw mind-blowing monuments, landscapes and populations. We visited some romantic cities of Eastern Europe, the frozen taigas of Siberia, the burning steppes of Kazakhstan, some of the amazing mountains and cities of China, and the mysterious forests and beaches of south-east Asia. All those days and nights in the train allowed me to read a lot, about environmental and political issues.

(Davide Pesare): Once arrived in Australia, I accepted to work at Animal Logic again, helping out on the movie Australia, Guardians of Ga’Hoole and Knowing. My role was very flexible. I filled with my experience the gaps in knowledge, communication or technology, in either shading or R&D or lighting. Finally, after 19 months waiting for my visa, I left for San Francisco, to start my new exciting job at Pixar. Moving country to chase work opportunities is exciting. I love it. It exposes me to new experiences, new people, new ways of working, it opens my eyes a bit more each time. In every place I made friends I will remember forever. But the longer you stay in one place, the deeper you roots grow into it and moving away will break those roots and it can be painful. It is hard to choose for a new exciting job, when it involves saying goodbye to the family, to friends, or to a relationship. It made me question why I am working in the CG industry. And the answer is still the same: I do it because I love it, and because I’m good at it. I started because in my childhood I was given emotions and dreams of fantastic worlds where wishes can become true. What I want is to return the favor, creating these worlds that will make people dream.
