(Davide Pesare): A good choice indeed, because in the two years I spent there I not only learned to be a better software engineer, but I could see how R&D and CG departments interact, and should interact, more in depth. That taught me to see, isolate and sometimes solve the problems and bottlenecks in a pipeline in my future productions. In my time there, I had fun writing shaders and tools for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Sweeney Todd and Elizabeth II the Golden Age. Then I moved from the look development department to pure R&D. During the pre-production of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, I wrote a successful 3D real-time renderer to faithfully and interactively preview the lighting conditions of a scene including shadows, gobos, volume lights, and so on. Unfortunately, technology in MPC is seldom exposed outside, either with papers, or with courses, so my work stayed in the shadow, and that got me quite frustrated. In the meantime, I had received an offer from Pixar Animation Studio, that is easily describable as my dream job, so my career aspirations in MPC lost any attraction on me. Besides, my partner’s UK visa was going to expire soon so I decided to leave with her.
