The Essence of Carlo Cestra: Independent Historical Filmmaker
Carlo Cestra’s mission is to tell real stories through the film media. He wants to get a cinematographic feel for his works being inspired by directors as James Cameron for his “Aliens of The Deep” documentary film.
Being a filmmaker is a though job, being an independent one is even harder: Carlo suggests to organize a network of collaborators and to be lean and agile in the structure. Work from home, cut expenses, travel less, use the Internet. Use the experience and share knowledge through teaching in courses and seminars.
To people wanting to make CGI films or videogames he suggests to go to places where these industries are healthy: London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, just to mention a few. If you want to be independent, you need to stay small, be generalist, be flexible.
One of the tools Carlo Cestra uses is Newtek LightWave 3D: compact, not expensive, solid, fast, reliable, great rendering quality. Bigger and more complex 3D packages need whole teams of technicians and specialists to make the most of it.
I want to leave you with some mottoes which really summarize the essence of this artist, these are some the sentences that Carlo believes in:
- “La fortuna sorride agli audaci” (Fortune favors the bold)
- “Mai mollare” (never quit)
- “Se non avessi mai mostrato le ie idee non avrei mai concluso i miei progetti più importanti” (I would have never done my projects if I had never shown my ideas)
