The story of Carlo Cestra
We have to go back to 1991 to hear this story. Year when Carlo was a student at the local Physics University. Is here that he faces for the first time a new breed of magical tools: QRT (the ancestor of POV-RAY) which needed to be programmed by hand and 3D Studio 1.0 which instead would allow to created the first 3D renderings.
Jurassic Park, the movie, is Carlo’s Epiphany. Everybody has a moment of their life when an event or an artwork has changed their desires and aspirations. Dinosaurs on the silver screen were Cestra’s new world of fantasy to reach.
“Tomorrow I will start with 3D computer Graphics”
This simple and powerful statement is the sentence responsible of Carlo Cestra’s new course of life. In years 1992 – 94 he studies, a self-taught, 3D Studio, one of the most popular 3D application at that time. Two years of experimentation and discoveries, of joy and pain.
Passion and motivation bring Carlo to his first professional work in the Television business. We should maybe remember that in 1994, especially in Italy there was no Internet, no Web, no tutorials, no forums and it was very difficult to get access to specialized magazines, books and publications. He was one of the druids, the gurus, the “Computer Magicians” of that time.
The collaboration, in various forms, with RAI (Radio Televisione Italiana), the Italian National TV station, will last until 2006. Is during his years in this big, government institution, that Carlo learns and invents a craft and an art. He was one of the first in Italy to be appointed as a Softimage Expert. Expensive and powerful 3D animation and rendering package which, at the dawn of CG was affordable only by big studios.
During this hectic period he produces and supervise many projects.
“Linea Blu”, an informative TV show about the sea and its fruits with a lively and modern motion graphics to introduce each contribution.
