Graduation film created by Gobelins School’ students at the end of a 3 years Character animation course in 2007.
The 3D CGI animated short film tells the story of two octopuses which, to escape a cook, run through a sunny Greek little town only to discover that being together will be hard.
A little gem of animation and storytelling delights the viewer with a fresh, fast-paced, cartoon which is fun and enjoyable. An essential design of scenery and characters conveys the sense of a clean stage where few main characters plays the game of love, escaping and reunion.
The camera movement is dynamic and gives the fast pace to the narration with jumps, panoramic wide shots, moving shots and dramatic angles. You can feel the wind in your hair while running down the stairs with the little three-wheel motorbike, a typical Italian vehicle very popular abroad.
The human characters are stylized and well characterized. The “commis”, the restaurant cook, resemble a typical islander and has some unique details which render him memorable and expressive.
The authors, graduated students of Gobelins, Ecole de L’Image, are providing a rich making-of on the film’s website.
Oktapodi is a small masterpiece, funny and nice to watch for a genuine slice of adventure and laughter and is like a lemon ice cream during a very hot summer at the beach. It’s refreshing.
The multi award winning 3D short was created by: Julien Bocabeille, François-Xavier Chanioux, Olivier Delabarre, Thierry Marchand, Quentin Marmier, Emud Nokhberi.
